            ABSTRACT

The study examined the relationship between foreign direct investment and Agricultural development in Nigeria Economy. Time series data were used for analysis and the time frame covered the period of 1986-2016.

The data used were sourced from CBN statistical bulletin and world development indicators. The Jacque Bera statistics is used to analyse the data and to test the normality of the variables while the correlation matrix was employed to test for the correlation relationships among the variables. The dependent variable is the agricultural output (AO), while the independent variables are foreign direct investment (FDI), lending rate (LR) and exchange rate (EXR). The bound test result revealed that there is a long run relationship among the macroeconomics variables.

The findings of the study revealed that foreign direct investment inflow has a significant influence on agricultural sector development in Nigeria. Thus, the foreign direct investment could be used to boost domestic agricultural output.

Therefore, it is recommended that Nigeria should formulate effective policies to ensure microeconomics stability for the purpose of attracting both domestic and foreign investment and government should build a stable exchange rate that will enhance foreign exchange earnings, encourage flexibility and competitiveness of farmer.
